Contrast

Written on 8:17 PM by Unknown

Could there be saints without a sinner, masters without beginners
Losers without a winner, could we love if not for hate?
Is it differences so vast beside the beauty of contrast,
That have helped us to outlast, our predecessors’ fate?
Good would just grow stale with no evil to abate
Evil turns upon itself with no goodness to negate
Charity is nothing without need, would not be needed without greed,
There would be no need to plead if a request was given weight —
For a thing to have a low there needs a high above to show,
That there is room for it to grow so that it too can be great,
There could be no peace or calm in life if things were good, innate,
With no ugly to compare to, what could we deem ornate?
We would all follow like cattle with no constant contrast battle,
For our worlds they need a rattle and a prod to motivate —
It may be pleasant seeming and you may have stopped for dreaming,
Thinking of a world not teeming with the dark things that you hate.
Evil turns upon itself with no goodness to negate
Good would just grow stale with no evil to abate

Lima Syarat Melakukan Maksiat

Written on 7:50 PM by Unknown

A Happy Ending

Written on 5:48 AM by Unknown

An old man plays his final role
his body aged, bent and grey

Daylight ends as night descends
it fades to black then fades away

His legacy was a life well lived
friend and lover, he knew no fear

The steady beep grows ever fainter
his heart weary, the end is near

Clutching a photo, worn and faded
through it all their love was strong

The angels took her home last winter
he whispers “honey it won’t be long”

His children gathered, hugs for all
tearful eyes betray their sorrow

He says I love you, don’t cry for me
I’ll be with your mother tomorrow

Words Are Sound, Words Are Loud, Words Are Avery, No. 3

Written on 11:55 PM by Unknown

I sometimes get lost and instead of using my map for directions, I use it to write stories. I know that this doesn’t help me get home, but it makes me feel a little better; it erases some of the paranoia and the fear that is within myself.

I will just pull my car over to the side of the road, pull out a pen and a map, and begin. I really get after it, too. The words travel up and down the roads, across rivers, and through the woods. Over mountains they fly and across oceans they glide; ancient cities are built and modern cities rebuilt. I put the pen down, smoke a cigarette, and get back on the road.
I will usually find my way home now, having answered whatever was pestering me subconsciously through my writing. My parents ask “where have you been?” and I respond “I took a trip” and they understand without asking anything else.
I have a collection of maps in my underwear drawer and sometimes I burn them just to make the stories feel more important than they are.

Shamelessly Sublime Saturday Poem

Written on 10:09 AM by Unknown

There is nothing to write about today but blue expanse
and the orange marigolds at my feet
and the new grass. What else could there be? What
can one do when the transcendent happens?
You just have to surrender. That’s what Baudelaire,
Prévert and O’Hara, too, understood
in their cosmopolitan way. I know
this is not what you want to hear,
but there’s no use denying the world.
And we may not end up happy, but for now
just try to see the four shades of maroon
in the Japanese maple, the ninebark,
my old Corolla and the brick stoop. Even
the clutter of hoses, brooms, umbrellas and disheveled matches
make their own duende.
The sun and the earth, full of light,
rake out the sins of summer
and let the raisin air
penetrate driveways
and the hides of dogs and houses.
And miraculous glass, letting gold pour through windows
into your bed.
All the poets are right.

PERFECTION

Written on 10:07 AM by Unknown

Perhaps it’s the way your
Eyes exude a radiant warmth and
Reflects an inner beauty so pure it
Fails to see the imperfections
Ever present in this life.
Could it be that you are
Truly heaven sent? Of one thing
I am sure.
On this earth there is
No other quite like you.
