A Happy Ending

Written on 5:48 AM by Unknown

An old man plays his final role
his body aged, bent and grey

Daylight ends as night descends
it fades to black then fades away

His legacy was a life well lived
friend and lover, he knew no fear

The steady beep grows ever fainter
his heart weary, the end is near

Clutching a photo, worn and faded
through it all their love was strong

The angels took her home last winter
he whispers “honey it won’t be long”

His children gathered, hugs for all
tearful eyes betray their sorrow

He says I love you, don’t cry for me
I’ll be with your mother tomorrow
